Here To Improve Sheffield's City Centre

Together we are ChangingSheff.  Someone told us we were changing Sheffield to make it a better place for residents - and the name stuck as ChangingSheff.  We want to make Sheffield's City Centre  a great place to live, which means it's also vibrant, fun, well designed, easy-to-use, convenient to live in, clean, safe and as enjoyable as possible. And that makes it a City Centre for everyone to enjoy. If it's a Great Place to live, it's a Great Place for everyone!

ChangingSheff is unusual for the reason that very few cities have a residents' group that represents the whole of the city centre. Most have interest in a particular district, like a historical district, but in our case we aim to represent the interests of all 27,000 residents living inside the inner ring road - a relatively small area with a radius of circa 750 metres from City Hall. Our belief is that anything that makes the centre a better place to live will also make it a better place to visit, work, run a business, shop and socialise. And by moving in, you will create a population of 35,000 by 2030.

And Sheffield city centre is changing - rapidly. Coming out of the banking crisis of 2009, the recession that followed, the national closures of many department stores and the move to online shopping during Covid, town centre retail has suffered everywhere. The strategy in Sheffield is to make it into a residential hub and bring new levels of demand - a plan that in the short-term created a vast building site, but will change the character for the better as it reaches completion. Over £500 million pounds is being invested in the new City Centre and as residents we support this strategy, because it's already becoming a great place to live.

Support for Leaseholders from the Federation of Private Residents Associations:

If your apartment block is not a member of the FPRA, we advise you to join. It isn't expensive and it is a great source of information about how apartments should be run by your management company. You'll need to form a Residents' Association and we can advise how.

The Street Community

ChangingSheff  initiated the support system for the street community in 2014 and it has grown to 25 agencies, funded and voluntary, involved with the Help-us-Help programme. No-one needs to be homeless in Sheffield if they are willing to accept support through the assistance available. Click on the Help-us-Help link above or click on the Facebook page for details.

Our next public meeting is to be announced:

ChangingSheff is fully supportive of the Business Improvement District (BID) process, which is making a difference to our city centre in ways the Council is unable to afford after losing £...billions in government support.
